i-SPY
This is a pocket-sized gem. It's a night and day guide to London, first published in 1951 by The Architectural Press. Edited by Sam Lambert and illustrated by Osbert Lancaster it's packed full of wit and charm. Arranged over 24hrs, highlights for me include: 1am CITY WALK 'the same walk can be done in daylight (with rather less chance of staying alive till the end)' and 5am FISH: a vivid description of 'London's roughest, toughest, market', Billingsgate.
